Environmental Conservation Driving Economic Development

It is well beyond time for a change in the way we think about how we are going to approach the future.

Currently our approach is to put economies and economic development before virtually all else. This leads to globalisation, large conglomerates structures, and focused production of commodities in specialised geographic locations that leave us, as a planet, vulnerable to catastrophic shocks that cause untold suffering.

We have become dependent on a very short list of strategic commodities that are controlled buy the few and required by us all. Whether this is deliberate or simply an evolution of economics is a conversation in another paper. However, we can see and experience these catastrophic shocks today with the advent of one isolated event that impacts world economies and creates suffering and sky rocketing costs of living worldwide.

The impact of the hostilities in Ukraine clearly identify the flaws in our current system of economic development. With one single event the world is now experiencing the impact of rising costs and scarcity of Hydrocarbons for essential energy and transport, and with this a devastating shortage of essential grain and food socks due to restriction of vessel movement from ports in Ukraine.

Over and above these issues, the international sanctions that have been imposed on Russia, are crippling the Russian economy but also causing severe economic problems with virtually all countries worldwide.

Coupled with a pandemic that virtually ceased all economic development for more than two years, the world and humanity has been exposed to incredible stress and shocks that are almost impossible to recover from. Exposing vividly our dependence on a very few commodities and our desperate vulnerability to irreparable damage to almost every man, woman and child.

This is the flaw in a system where large organisations control vast amounts of our limited resources, control who and where those resources are produced and delivered to and in effect control the delicate balance of our very existence.

There is nothing new in tis. It is all part of an every evolving efficiency in production, and exponentially expanding population and limited suitable resources.

This is encouraged by economies around the world to ensure demand is met by an efficient and vast supply chain.

It does, however, care very little about the impact on our lives in both our live styles, availability of food and energy, and nothing more than lip service to our ever degrading environment and climate change acceleration.

Our entire world is dependent on fossil fuels for everything we do. These fossil fuels are controlled by a very select few at both national and corporate levels.

They hold the entire world to ransom either deliberately or by forces that impact the ability to move these commodities.

Our entire economic development, world wide, has at its core this dependence on hydrocarbons. And as such The damage this does to our planet is put in second place to the demand for more and more energy and fuels.

This was never sustainable, and is becoming even less sustainable day by day. Yet our entire system of life on earth is dictated to by this very dependence. Governments plan using it. Universities teach economic policies based on it. Transport of our food and clothing, depends on it. Infrastructure is created for it and by it. Everything we do in our lives is based and controlled by it and the environmental impact is so far out of control that we may never recover.

The current paradigm for our planet is ” Economic development driven Environmental Conservation.”  Which essentially means that the economy must survive as best it can in second placed to concerted efforts of our development to destroy it.

A new Paradigm must be adopted if we are to progress. The paradigm for the Future is ” Environmental Conservation Driving Economic Development.” We simply cannot continue in any other way, and our future economic development must be driven by the need to protect and conserve our environment and institute Renewable/Clean Energy that can provide national Economic energy independence.

Each country, nation, state and territory must have its own independent energy source and the ability to provide its own strategic commodities that do not rely totally on global conglomerates or unstable countries.

When energy can and is produced domestically to provide for all aspects of the nation, we then have the ability to turn our attention to ensuring that this environmentally sustainable methodology dictates how we develop our independent and collaborative development.

When we no longer depend on others for our essential core requirements we are free to look at our world in a much more positive way to conserve what resources we have and ensure that everyone has their share of them.

By unburdening ourselves from Fossil fuels we free ourselves from poisoning our children, our environment and our future.
